Description

Whether we are talking about editing videos or photos, having a clear view of the "before" and "after" is very important.

Of course, most advanced photo or video editing apps provide a decent way of checking out the results and comparing them with the initial iteration.

However, things tend to get a bit complicated when you want to compare three or more versions of an image or video. That's exactly why Identity was created.

While it might not look like much at first glance, Identity is a bit more than just a glorified video and image viewer. It's an app for comparing multiple versions of an image or video, and it does this with the help of its tab-based GUI.

Ok, granted, that doesn't sound groundbreaking, and it definitely isn't. However, add the app's ability to load a large number of photos with features like the ability to toggle between them using keyboard shortcuts, as well as the option to change the zoom levels on all loaded photos or videos, and you got yourself a very efficient comparison tool.

Speaking of keyboard operations, Identity boasts keyboard support for all its functions. For example, CTRL+O allows you to open a new video or image, CTRL+V to paste videos or photos directly to the app, CTRL+W to close the selected file, 1 to 9 keys to swap between tabs, and CTRL+0 to bring the zoom level to 1:1.

As mentioned before, there's nothing really impressive about Identity. Still, that doesn't matter because Identity is a simple app that does its job right and in the most efficient way possible.

You can get the app directly from the Flathub website, or build it directly from the source for any Linux distribution, just as long as you keep in mind that it uses GStreamer and the fact it doesn't work without the playbin3 element.
