IDE Cobol offers a simple working environment and standard tools for creating, compiling, and executing commands in the old MS-Cobol 80.
Even though this language isn't popular anymore, it can be a handy tool for learning the fundamentals of programming. It's kind of like taking a step back to see where it all began.
Just a heads up: this application hasn't been updated in ages, so it doesn't work with newer operating systems. If you're rocking Windows XP, though, you're in luck!
The interface is super simple—it's just one window that looks a lot like your standard word processor. You can write code and also cut, copy, or paste your selections with ease. There's even a search and replace feature and options to change the font size.
The status bar shows you exactly where you are in your code by displaying the current row and column position. Plus, you can print your projects or save them as COBOL files (in COB format). Compiling and running code is easy too! Just keep in mind that there aren't many other features included.
You won't find a user manual for COBOL commands here. But don't worry! IDE Cobol comes with 12 templates to help you get started. It also supports two languages: English and Portuguese.
This tool is great because it doesn't use up much of your computer's power—it runs smoothly without hogging CPU or RAM. So if you're curious about revisiting this old-school programming language, download IDE Cobol. It's really an easy way to dip your toes back into coding!
