GraphQL Playground is a cool tool built with the Electron framework. It's a free and open-source IDE for GraphQL, which is a data query language that’s super handy for APIs. This software gives you a clean and simple interface to load up your local repositories that have .graphql files, plus you can connect to remote endpoints and start editing your code without any hassle.
Getting started with GraphQL Playground is a breeze! After a quick setup where you don’t have to do much, you'll see a stylish window pop up. To get the hang of how everything works, you can check out some local repositories that the developer includes.
The layout features two vertical panes: one for writing your code and another for seeing the output. One of the best parts? It supports syntax highlighting and code completion which makes coding so much easier! Just hit the big play button right between those panes, and voilà – your code runs, showing results on the screen.
You can tidy up your code with just one click on the “Prettify” button. Plus, it lets you add new HTTP headers, download JSON files, and even generate code for your mutation based on what you're working with. If you want to juggle multiple projects at once, no worries! You can connect to multiple sessions easily.
If you want to look back at your history of repositories, just head over to the “Share” menu. You can mark your favorite projects there too! There’s also a search tool available for quick access. And yes, there are buttons for sharing all tabs and HTTP headers as well!
When it comes to settings in GraphQL Playground, you're covered! You can toggle developer tools on or off, switch between dark mode or light mode in the interface, enable or disable VIM mode, and set things like schema reloading automatically. Want to change the endpoint path? You can do that from the settings menu too!
We tested it on the latest Windows version and didn’t run into any compatibility issues at all. With its straightforward design, GraphQL Playground should meet what many users need when looking for an easy-to-use GraphQL IDE.
