Description

Gogs

Gogs is a super handy and lightweight software that makes it super easy to create and run your own self-hosted Git services. If you're looking for something simple and quick, this is a great choice!

Compatible with Major Operating Systems

The first thing you should know about Gogs is that it works on almost all major operating systems. Whether you're using Windows, macOS, Linux, or even ARM devices, you're covered!

No Heavy Processing Power Needed

Another cool thing is that Gogs doesn't need a ton of processing power, so you can even run it on something like a Raspberry Pi! How neat is that?

Setup Requirements for Gogs

Before diving into using Gogs, make sure you have Git for Windows installed on your computer. You can also run Gogs with tools like Docker or Vagrant.

Selecting Your Database

You'll need to have a database ready too! You can pick between two supported options: MySQL or PostgreSQL. Make sure one of those is set up.

Setting Up an SSH Server

If you're planning to use SSH, don't forget to set up an SSH server. But if you're sticking with HTTP or built-in SSH servers, you can skip this step!

Your First Steps with Gogs

Once you've got everything in place, just download the Gogs binary, unzip it, and open up CMD from its home directory. To start the server, type "gogs web." By default, it runs on port 3000.

Tweaking Your Setup

You can start customizing Gogs to fit your needs right after this. I really recommend checking out the documentation on the official Gogs website; it's worth taking some time to read through!

A Reliable Utility for Git Services

All in all, Gogs is an awesome tool that lets you host Git services easily. It's straightforward and versatile without needing too many system resources. If simplicity and efficiency are what you're after, give Gogs a try!
