Description

GNOME Color Manager is an open source session framework designed especially for the GNOME desktop environment, making it easy to manage, install and generate color profiles for attached LCD panels.

Being extremely easy-to-use and because color accuracy is very important for those who take photos, scan documents or print images seriously, the application allows users to generate color profiles using a hardware colorimeter device or install them from a comprehensive database.

The project is not a standalone application, as it is bundled with the GNOME Control Center software on top of a fresh installation of the GNOME desktop environment, available on various Linux distributions.

However, it is distributed as a source archive, allowing advanced users to configure, compile and install it under any Linux-based operating system, as long as all the requirements are met. It can be accessed from the Hardware section of the GNOME Control Center app.

When users click the “Color” entry on the Settings application of the GNOME desktop, they will be able to see a list with all the attached devices, such as LCD monitors. By default, the program will automatically install color profiles for these devices.

If a device does not have a color profile, it is a must to add one. You can use the Add Profile button on the main window to select an existing color profile or import one using the standard .icc file distributed with your device.

Users can set a color profile as default for all users, remove it, or view detailed information, such as type, colorspace, version, manufacturer, model, display correction, white point, CIE 1931, 3D gamut, TRC, metadata, and sRGB.

The truth is that having an integrated color manager into the GNOME Control Center application, makes the GNOME desktop environment a powerful and unbeatable open source project for any Linux-based operating system.
