GMER is a handy application that helps you find rootkits. It scans pretty much every part of your system to keep you safe. While it has an important job, how it goes about it is quite impressive!
The interface isn’t the most eye-catching, but it’s simple and well-organized. You’ll find several tabs that make it easy to access all the options available. There are also some buttons and panels that show different information. It's pretty easy for anyone to use, but if you're new to this stuff, be careful! Some features could mess with your PC if you’re not sure what you're doing.
The integrated tabs let you keep an eye on many parts of your computer like processes, services, and the registry. The most important tab is the “Rootkits/Malware” screen. This one really helps keep your system secure.
GMER has a scanning system that checks selected drives for dangerous files. It looks for hidden processes, threads, modules, services, files, Alternate Data Streams, registry keys, drivers hooking SSDT, IDT, IRP calls, and inline hooks.
This application also makes it super easy to monitor loading drivers along with new processes, libraries, file functions, registry entries, and TCP/IP connections.
You won’t find a configuration screen here—which actually makes things easier! However, the lack of a comprehensive Help file means it’s better suited for experienced users who know how to work with these features.
This utility uses a moderate amount of resources when scanning so it won’t slow down your computer. Plus, it works on all versions of Windows!
GMER can be really helpful for lots of users out there! With just a few tweaks in certain areas, it could become even more appealing.
