FreeWRL is a cool open-source VRML and X3D browser that’s licensed under the Gnu Library General Public License. If you need to view VRML and X3D 3D files, this software has got your back!
This browser was created by developers who wanted to make something high-quality and up-to-date for everyone to use. It’s really catching on in both industry and schools, which is pretty awesome!
Since the year 2000, a team led by John Stewart at Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) has been hard at work on FreeWRL. They teamed up with the WEB 3-D Consortium to get it out there for all of us.
FreeWRL is designed for Linux and Mac OS/X systems, so if you’re using one of those, you’re in luck! It supports Javascript, Java Class invocation, and follows the EAI version 1 spec. Plus, it meets or beats the VRML-97 (ISO/IEC 14772:1997) standards. The team is also working on making sure FreeWRL can fully support both VRML and X3D.
If you're interested in checking it out, you can download FreeWRL here. It’s user-friendly and perfect for anyone wanting to explore 3D files easily!
