FreeShred is a handy tool that helps you permanently erase files from your computer. This way, no one can recover your data using special software, which is super important if you're concerned about privacy.

What Can FreeShred Do?

This software can delete folders, clean out the Recycle Bin, and wipe out any Internet privacy-related data. It also makes sure to securely erase any free space left by deleted files or folders. You know how when you use the Shift+Delete key, it skips the Recycle Bin? Well, FreeShred takes care of that too! Plus, it supports multiple security algorithms and randomization types for extra safety.

No Setup Needed!

The best part? You don’t need to go through a complicated setup process. Just save its files wherever you want on your disk and double-click the .exe file to get started. It won’t mess with your Windows registry either! Just keep in mind that you'll need strong .NET Framework installed for everything to run smoothly.

User Interface

The interface of FreeShred is pretty straightforward with a large window that's easy to navigate. You can create new tasks by selecting whether you want to shred a file, folder, or even Recycle Bin contents. You'll set your target file or folder along with the algorithm and randomization mode you prefer.

Create Multiple Tasks

You can line up several tasks in a queue and start them all at once! It's simple to remove tasks from your list or rearrange them how you like. However, editing properties for these tasks isn’t an option.

Security Algorithms Galore

When it comes to security algorithms, FreeShred has options ranging from 1 pass (like British HMG Infosec Standard) all the way up to 35 passes (Gutmann method). More passes mean better security!

Randomization Types

You have choices for randomization too! You can tell FreeShred to randomize once per pass (which is fast), once per write operation (intermittent), or even every byte (dynamic). The flexibility here is great!

Add-Ons and Plugins

The downloaded package includes several plugins ready for use right away. If needed, you can manage these plugins easily by turning off any extras you don't want. For example, set up custom algorithm profiles with different pass numbers or byte data.

Wipe Everything Clean!

You can clean free disk space on any partition—even removable drives and network drives! Plus, it’ll securely erase your Internet history, temporary files, and cookies too!

Performance Review

During our tests, FreeShred didn’t slow down our system at all while performing tasks quickly without crashing or throwing error messages. While the interface could use a little polish, this software packs powerful features dedicated to wiping data securely.
