What is FlyBack FOR LINUX?


FlyBack


FlyBack is a handy software for backing up and restoring your system, similar to Apple's Time Machine. If you love how easy Time Machine makes things on Mac, you'll be glad to know that Linux has a lot of the same tools built right in. FlyBack gives you a simple interface to make everything super user-friendly.



Getting Started with FlyBack


Before you dive in, you'll need to make sure you've got a few packages installed on your system:



  • For Debian: $ sudo apt-get install python python-glade2 python-gnome2 python-sqlite3 rsync

  • For Ubuntu: $ sudo apt-get install python python-glade2 python-gnome2 python-sqlite3 python-gconf rsync

  • For Redhat/Fedora: $ yum install pygtk2 gnome-python2-gconf pygtk2-libglade python-sqlite3



Downloading FlyBack


Once those packages are set up, it’s time to download FlyBack! You can get it by running one of these commands:



  • svn checkout http://flyback.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ flyback

  • wget http://flyback.googlecode.com/files/flyback_0.4.0.tar.gz
    tar -zxvf flyback_0.4.0.tar.gz



Running FlyBack


After downloading, switch to the new directory (either "flyback/src/" or just "flyback", based on how you downloaded it) and run this command:


python flyback.py
