Description
Embellish is a cool tiny application that does one thing and one thing only: it helps you install Nerd Fonts on your Linux system.
It's free and open-source, and it's mostly designed for GNOME desktop environments on Linux (GTK4 and Libadwaita).
What can an app such as Embellish do for you? For starters, it provides a list of all available Nerd Fonts. You can download and install any of the provided fonts, as well as use it do uninstall/remove any already installed fonts.
The app also acts as a font manager, hence, you can update all installed fonts with just a few mouse clicks. Another cool aspect is that you can both bulk install and uninstall fonts (but this is only available in the app's CLI and TUI form). And that's really about it.
By now, it should be quite clear that Embellish is not what one might call a revolutionary app. However, if you're a developer, or you're an avid fan of Nerd Fonts in general, then you'll most likely love this little app.
For those who never used Nerd Fonts, it's a cool project that aims to bring to the masses as many fonts as possible. Not just any fonts, mind you, but the fonts are usually preferred by developers (which is also why the Nerd word is in the name). Some good examples of such fonts include Font Awesome, Devicons, Octicons, and many others.
If you don't find this app interesting, it's fine. However, the whole story of how Nerd Fonts came to be is definitely worth knowing. Nerd Fonts actually started in life as a singular font.
This font was a combination of different fonts and glyphs (with VimDevIcons at the base of everything). Over time, the font became so popular that its creator decided to "branch out" and start its own project and repository.
