Electricity Meter Analyzer, or EMA for short, is a handy program that helps you check if the power bills you get from your electricity retailer are accurate. It does this by looking at your electricity usage every half hour, breaking it down by the time of day and the type of power you're using—like peak, off-peak, shoulder, and controlled load. Then it applies the rates for each type to figure out what it thinks your total cost should be.
Before EMA can get to work, you'll need to grab some NEM12 data from your retailer. They have to give it to you by law if you ask! Just make sure to clarify that the file they send is exactly what they receive from their electricity distributor or network provider. You'll also need to set up some options in EMA to match your tariff power types so everything lines up correctly.
EMA only works with NEM12 data files because these follow a national standard that all electricity distributors must stick to. If the file you receive doesn’t meet this standard, importing will fail, and you won’t be able to compare your bills. So it's super important to double-check that!
