When you fire up Duplicate Detective, it immediately asks you to pick the folder you want to clean. You can easily select it through the Finder menu or just drag and drop the folder right onto the main window. Super easy, right?

This tool has a powerful search algorithm that scans your files quickly. You’ll see how many files have been checked, how many duplicates were found, and how much space they’re using before it shows you all the results. For example, on a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 6GB of RAM, Duplicate Detective scanned an 11GB folder with 1,650 items in less than a minute! That’s pretty impressive!

User-Friendly Results Window

In the results window, you can sort your files by size, type, name, count, or whether they’ve been selected. You can choose to list them from smallest to largest or vice versa. Plus, you have options to automatically pick either the oldest or newest files for removal.

Customize Your Settings

The Preferences section allows you to set default rules for auto-selecting duplicates. You can also change the minimum file size for scanning so you're not wasting time on tiny files that don’t matter.
