DirecTV Remote Control is a super easy-to-use piece of software that lets you control one or more DVR devices right from your computer. No need to deal with the physical remote anymore! You can do all sorts of things without getting up.

Why You Need Yahoo! Widget Engine

This utility is really straightforward, but there's a catch: you need to have the Yahoo! Widget Engine installed on your system. If you don’t have it, DirecTV Remote Control won’t work.

User-Friendly Interface

The main screen looks just like an actual remote control. You can pick which DVR you want to use—up to eight different devices are supported! Plus, you can access, edit, and create 'Macros' that show up on the left side of your virtual remote.

Customizing Your Settings

If you right-click on DirecTV Remote Control, you'll find a menu that lets you adjust the 'Widget Preferences'. Here’s where you can enter the IP addresses for your DVRs and start making those handy macros.

Setting Up Your DVRs

To kick things off, go into 'Widget Preferences' and check out the 'IP 1' or 'IP 2' tabs. This is where you can set up names and IP addresses for up to four DVRs in each tab. The name you choose will pop up in the main interface when you're picking which device to control.

Create Macros for Easy Control

The 'General' section allows you to show a 'Full Size Remote', speak macro text, key names, or titles. In the 'Macros' tabs, type in what you'd like to call your macro and then list out the actions it should perform—just separate each action with spaces!

Supported Actions

You can do actions like power off, format, replay, stop, advance, rewind, forward, pause, record—basically everything except changing volume since that's done through an IR signal. So keep that in mind!
