Description

DesktopScanner

DesktopScanner is a handy app that keeps an eye on what’s happening on your desktop. It takes regular snapshots of your screen and saves them as image files. This means you can check out what others are doing on your computer if they have access.

Easy Setup with Java

Getting started with DesktopScanner is pretty straightforward, but there’s one thing to keep in mind: you need to have Java installed. The interface is simple and clean, making it easy to find everything you need without any fuss.

Saving Your Screenshots

In the free version, all you have to do is pick a folder where you want the screenshots to go. Just a heads up: make sure that folder is empty! If there are any files in it, DesktopScanner will delete them before saving the new screenshots.

How Often Does It Snap?

This tool takes a screenshot every seven seconds, but you can tweak that time if you want. Each screenshot comes with the date and time added right onto the image, and they’re saved in JPG format. However, there’s a limit of 50 photos it can save at once. If you want more features, like customization options, you'll need to buy the full version.

No Autostart or Customization

One downside is that DesktopScanner doesn’t start automatically when Windows boots up. Plus, you can’t change how often it takes pictures or save them in different formats other than JPG. The default password for stopping the monitor (which is "123456") didn't work for us either when we tried using the secret key combo (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+X).

Performance During Tests

During our tests, we found that DesktopScanner didn’t slow down our computer at all. It used only a small amount of CPU and RAM resources. But just so you know, we had trouble with the default password and had to close Java from Task Manager.

A Great Monitoring Tool

Overall, DesktopScanner offers great options for monitoring your desktop activity by capturing images regularly. While it has some limitations in features compared to what we hoped for, it's still useful for basic tasks.
