Number and word puzzle games are always intriguing and more often than not, difficult to solve. The UK television game show, Countdown, had as one of its main pieces, a number puzzle, which involved selecting 6 numbers and creating a valid equation from them, all within a 30 seconds time-frame. Countdown is an application that was created in order to help users solve such puzzles, through the aid of a built-in algorithm.

The application features a simple design, which we feel is adequate given its scope and intended purpose. All functions are neat and readily accessible and do not pertain to more than the essential functionality, therefore maintaining clutter at bay.

All the different features can be accessed by simply navigating to their respective tab, and when testing the app, we didn’t feel hindered in any way. The simple and elegant design also facilitates interaction in terms of accessibility.

As stated in the introduction, the application deals with both numerical and alphabetical characters, just as in the game presented in the popular TV show. Consequently, users will be able to either preview the solutions for equations, as well as words.

More precisely, after selecting a preferred set of numbers, the app will propose the available equations, or, when dealing with letters, the corresponding words. A start and stop feature is available for the counter, as well as a detailed view of it.

Addressing the puzzles from the popular “Countdown” game on British TV, this application proposes a smart algorithm for making quick work of either numbers or letters in the same style of puzzles.
