CodeKit is a super handy Mac app that makes developing websites way easier! It helps you compile built-in scripts, test them across different web browsers, and find any problems that pop up. Let’s be real; all of that can take a lot of time and can get pretty tricky.
The first thing you’ll want to do is import your website into CodeKit. Once you do, it creates a neat list of all the components. You can easily sort these by type, like images, pages, scripts, stylesheets, and more. How cool is that?
When you click on a file in CodeKit, it opens up an inspector panel automatically. This panel gives you all the details about how this file relates to others in your project. You can check the syntax and even compile the file right there!
Wanna tweak some settings? No problem! In the Settings panel, you can customize general details about your current projects like the icon and name. You can also change coding languages options and set rules for syntax checking. Plus, managing different frameworks is easy too!
The best part? CodeKit has a built-in web server that starts up every time you open the app. This means you can see how your changes look by just clicking the “Preview” button at the top right corner.
One of my favorite features is how CodeKit automatically detects any changes made to files in your project. It reloads everything so you can see how your updates affect things in real-time! Just keep in mind that you'll need an index.html file to show your website correctly.
If you're a web developer looking to test out projects while making adjustments, CodeKit is definitely worth checking out. Its built-in web server and refresh capabilities let you preview webpages live in any browser!
