ChessX
ChessX is a free chess database designed for Windows users. It lets you work with PGN files, browse through games, and even set up board positions easily.
What is ChessX?
ChessX is built on the foundation of SCID (Shane's Chess Information Database). It’s a multi-platform archive where you can view, edit, and manage your own collection of chess games. Unlike its predecessor, ChessX uses C++ and Qt instead of the older Tcl/Tk code. This update brings a fresh tabbed document interface along with menus, toolbars, and a status bar packed with new features.
User-Friendly Features
Even though the interface might take some getting used to, many features are straightforward. Each game opens in its own document window that shows a chessboard along with customizable panels.
Game Management
This application can load and save PGN files while letting you work with multiple databases at once. You can easily browse through various games, including popular chess variations! While you're playing, you can leave comments and track piece moves—super handy!
Learn Chess Like a Pro
If you're eager to up your game, ChessX has a huge database filled with resources on powerful positions. It even shows a move tree based on the current position of your pieces on the board! You can export your games as PGN files or in HTML or LaTeX formats. Plus, sharing your amazing wins via email is easy!
Continuous Play
If you receive games from friends, don’t worry! ChessX can open them as PGN or BIN files so you can continue where you left off.
