Chaosreader is a handy, free tool that helps you track TCP, UDP, and various other sessions while pulling application data right from snoop or tcpdump logs. If you're into networking or just need to figure out what's happening on your network, this software has got your back!
With Chaosreader, you can work with a bunch of supported protocols. These include TCP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, ICMP, telnet, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, IRC, X11, VNC—you name it! It's like having a toolbox where you can pick the right tool for the job.
This tool is what we call an "any-snarf" program. It’s pretty cool because it fetches telnet sessions, FTP files, and even HTTP transfers (like HTML pages or images in GIF and JPEG formats). Plus, it can grab SMTP emails right from the captured data in your network traffic logs.
One of the best features is that Chaosreader creates an HTML index file. This file links to all your session details and includes real-time replay programs for telnet and other sessions like rlogin or IRC. You also get image reports and detailed HTTP GET/POST content reports—talk about thorough!
If you want to keep things simple, Chaosreader can run in standalone mode too! In this mode, it calls snoop or tcpdump (if they're available) to create log files first before processing them. It’s super user-friendly!
If you're ready to download Chaosreader, jump on board and make your network analysis a lot easier!
