Description

Cego-DBD is an open source database API (Application Programming Interface) written in C and Perl, designed to implement a Perl DBD driver for the Cego relational database system. It combines the XS API with C++ libraries.

As mentioned, the program is written in the C and Perl programming languages, which means that a GNU GCC compiler, Perl and the DBI Perl module must be installed on your operating system prior to attempting to install Cego-DBD using the source tarball distributed on Softpedia.

In order to install Cego-DBD, you must download it from Softpedia or its official website (see download link at the end of the article), save the file somewhere on your computer and extract its contents with your favorite archive manager.

Open a terminal emulator app, configure the program by running the ‘make Makefile.PL --prefix=/usr/’ command (/usr can be replaced with /usr/local on some systems that require it), then execute the ‘make’ command to build the DBD driver.

You can easily test the driver by building a Cego database and start up the daemon. Don’t forget to open the dbd.def connection parameter file and add the respective database connection parameters at the beginning of the file by following the :::: format (e.g. softpedia:2200:TS1:test:test).

You will now be able to run the database driver tests by executing the ‘make test’ command. If successful, install the driver system wide by running the ‘make install’ command as root or the ‘sudo make install’ command as a privileged user.

The software has been successfully tested on GNU/Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD and Mac OS X operating systems using the GNU C++ compiler (GCC). It is fully compatible with the 32-bit, 64-bit and SPARC instruction set architectures.
