CD-ROM Digest MD5

CD-ROM Digest MD5 is a handy little tool that helps you compute the checksum of individual tracks on your CD-ROM. It's super straightforward and perfect for those times when you need to double-check your data.

What Does It Do?

This program can read various types of media:

A Few Things to Note

You might find that tracks are often bigger than the data actually written inside them. If there's an issue, the program will let you know at the end. Just a heads up, it's not always easy to tell where the data ends!

Padded Tracks and Checksums

If you have tracks shorter than 4 seconds, they get padded to about 614400 bytes. To check the checksum for these, just pad your img/iso file to that size and run md5sum.

Requirements You Should Know About

Requirements:

• You’ll need libmhash or you can port it to OpenSSL, Gcrypt, or another library.

$ make 

$ gcc -W -Wall cd5.c -o cd5 -lmhash 

$ ./cd5 

Error Handling and Track Sizes

If you see errors like:

ioctl(/dev/cdrom, CDROMREADMODE1(1277)) failed: Input/output error 

This usually means there's a mismatch with track sizes compared to your ISO file size (unless they're smaller than 614400 bytes). Remember this rule: if the digest doesn't match up, something's off!
