Description

If you're passionate about things with wheels and combustion engines, then you might know what a carburetor (also spelled carburettor or carburetter) is. We don't often see carburetors in today's day and age with all the modern vehicles (electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-powered), but carburetors were for a very long time the norm.

Upon reading the name for this app, Carburetor, one could be forgiven for not necessarily associating it with Tor or Onion routing, privacy, or anonymity.

However, the app's name does have a bit of "logic" behind it, as Carburetor is a GUI for Tractor, a cool Onion routing proxy command-line app.

Let's start with the basics: Carburetor is a free and open-source app that follows the GNOME Code of Conduct. This means that it's a modern GTK app that is primarily built for GNOME (but it can also run without issues on other distros such as Arch, Debian, Kali Linux, Ubuntu, etc.)

The whole point of this app is to help you stay as safe and private as possible during your online browsing sessions. We know what you're going to say: "Tor Browser already exists, why use this instead?"

Well, that's not for me to say, as everyone is free to use whatever feels good and appropriate, and I'll be the first to say that Tor Browser is indeed a great choice if you're interested in what Tor and Onion routing can offer.

As far as I'm concerned, this app is a great alternative to the Tor Browser since you're not entirely limited by it. You can pop open Carburetor, connect to Tor, and go about your daily work using your favorite browser and even other apps. Worth checking out.
