What is Bluescreen?

Bluescreen

Bluescreen is a fun screensaver that can really give your coworkers a scare! It shows the infamous BSOD (blue screen of death) when their computer goes idle. Imagine their surprise when they see it pop up!

What is Bluescreen?

This cool prank tool comes from SysInternals, which is part of Microsoft. Don't worry; it's totally harmless! It just simulates that scary BSOD you hear about, which usually happens because of software or hardware problems.

How Does It Work?

The BSOD screensaver is made to mimic some details about the computer it’s running on. For instance, on Windows NT, it grabs the build number and processor revision along with info about loaded drives and disk properties. Pretty neat, right?

Different Features for Different Systems

If you're using Windows XP or Server 2003, you'll see it copying the startup screens that show during system boot every 15 seconds. And if you're on NT 4.0, it will even pretend to do a disk check (chkdsk) and throw out all kinds of errors.

Spotting the Prank

A sharp-eyed person might catch on that this is a fake screen since some messages don’t quite add up. But hey, it’s all in good fun! Unlike a regular screensaver, Bluescreen doesn’t respond to mouse movements at all. The only way to get back to your real desktop is by hitting the Esc key.

How to Install Bluescreen

You can easily install this screensaver by right-clicking on it and selecting “install.” After that, you’ll see Bluescreen in your list of available screensavers. You can even download here if you want to try it out!
