Beat Counter is a super easy-to-use app for Mac OS X that helps you figure out the beats per minute (BPM) of your favorite songs. It does this by analyzing the tracks using smart algorithms. What's cool is that it can detect the BPM of all those songs in your iTunes library and even save that BPM info right into the ID3 tag of each MP3 track.
So, why should you care about BPM? Well, if you're a DJ, it’s a big deal! Knowing the BPM helps DJs mix tracks with similar tempos perfectly. Plus, if you just want to create playlists with songs that have different BPMs, Beat Counter can totally help you out.
The main window of Beat Counter is vibrant and colorful. It displays a list of all your iTunes playlists and songs you've added. You can sort these songs by filename, artist, title, BPM, and other cool details like certainty or progress parameters. The top area lets you queue files or playlists and check out the BPM range. You can also export either all values or just selected ones.
Once you've figured out the BPM for your tracks, getting them into iTunes is a breeze! When you're exporting values, you'll see a separate window showing how it’s going. This way, you’ll know which files were processed successfully and how many BPM values were exported—or if any files couldn't be analyzed.
A little heads up: Beat Counter can only analyze files that iTunes can decode. So, if a song has Apple's Digital Rights Management protection on it, this app won't work its magic on those tracks.
You’ve got some options too! You can tweak settings like algorithm quality and background brightness. Plus, there’s even a way to set a custom background image or change how many analyses run at once.
In short, Beat Counter provides an easy but powerful way to find and export the BPM values of supported tracks in your iTunes library. While its user interface isn’t super fancy or modern-looking, it's clean and really user-friendly. Overall, Beat Counter might not blow your mind but it's definitely handy for quickly setting the BPM for your tunes!
