BatchResourceUpdater (BRU) is a handy little app designed to help you manage resources in PE files. It automates the process of extracting, updating, and removing those resources with ease. The cool part? It uses an XML file to outline all the actions it needs to take. Once it’s done manipulating your files, it saves them and updates their checksums too. Just a quick heads up: this program isn’t fully tested yet, so make sure to back up all your files before diving in. So far, I haven’t run into any issues!
BRU is meant to work alongside tools like ResourceHacker rather than replace them. One thing to note is that it doesn’t show you which resources are already there—you can only see them by extracting them first. If you want to modify string, menu, or dialog resource types, you should use ResourceHacker for those tasks.
Where BatchResourceUpdater really shines is in its automation capabilities. If a binary changes—like after a Windows Update—you can quickly apply resource changes without the hassle! This saves time and keeps everything running smoothly.
If you're curious about trying out BatchResourceUpdater, just keep in mind that while it's great for automating tasks, you might still need other software like ResourceHacker for certain modifications.
Always remember: before using BRU or any new software, having a backup plan is key! This way, if something goes awry (though I doubt it will), you'll be covered.
