Barnacle is a handy little tool that adds customizable toolbars to your favorite programs. It's like having your own personal command center right inside any window you’re working in!

What Can You Do with Barnacle?

Barnacle lets you create programmable toolbars that can change images, show tips when you hover over them, and respond to all sorts of clicks—left, right, and middle! You can set up actions like key presses, menu selections, button clicks, or even different window actions.

Getting Started with Barnacle

Here’s how to kick things off:

• First, place Barnacle.exe in the folder C:\Program Files\Barnacle, then run the file.


• This will create a settings file for Barnacle and two folders named Toolbars and Images.


• The Toolbars folder is where you'll keep your toolbar definitions. You’ll find some sample files there for apps like Calculator and Notepad.


• The Images folder is for your custom images. There’s already one icon in there to get you started!

Add Your Own Toolbar to an App!

If you want to add your own toolbar to an application, just follow these steps:

• Create an ini-file in the Settings subfolder (like Calc.ini) or copy one of the existing files.


• Edit the new file and change the class= line to match the application you’re targeting. For example, if it's for Calculator, use the class name SciCalc.


• You can find out what class name to use by right-clicking Barnacle's tray icon and selecting Show Info.


• Hover over the application you want to modify while watching the tray area; a pop-up will show the class name.


• Add descriptions for your buttons as explained in the Toolbars section below.


• If you're feeling creative, make your own images and put them in the Images subfolder.


• Finally, restart Barnacle!
