AUSEnabler is a super handy tool for macOS users. It helps make sure your machine gets the latest updates, especially when you're dealing with unsupported systems. macOS usually needs Software Update Servers to keep everything running smoothly. But if you've got Sierra on a machine that doesn't officially support it, you're out of luck when it comes to getting updates.
That's where AUSEnabler steps in! This tool lets you switch the update catalog used by your system so you can still get those important updates. When you launch AUSEnabler, it automatically finds out which update catalog your system is using and shows the link right in its main window. If you want to reset things, just click the "Reset Catalogs" button and you're good to go.
But here's a heads up: if you're running macOS Sierra on unsupported hardware, those updates can be totally blocked. While you might want to keep everything as is, missing out on crucial security patches isn't great.
If you hit the "Switch Catalogs" button in AUSEnabler, it takes you to a new panel where you can choose between the Sierra seed or production branch. AUSEnabler will show you which catalog you're subscribed to and recommend sticking with the production branch unless you're really experienced.
Just remember, you'll need an active internet connection for AUSEnabler to fetch the latest update catalog URLs.
In short, AUSEnabler is a user-friendly graphical interface that makes changing your update catalog subscription a breeze! Whether you're switching to the latest Sierra seed or production branches, it cuts out all the hassle of command-line tools. Plus, it gives you details about your current subscription and handles downloading those AUS links automatically!
