attr is a handy tool for managing extended attributes on XFS file systems. It helps you set, get, remove, and list these attributes easily.
How to Use attr
- Set a Value: Run
lt-attr [-LRSq] -s attrname [-V attrvalue] pathname - Get a Value: Use
lt-attr [-LRSq] -g attrname pathname - Remove an Attribute: Type
lt-attr [-LRSq] -r attrname pathname - List Attributes: Check this command:
lt-attr [-LRq] -l pathname
The -s option reads a value from standard input, while the -g option writes a value to standard output.
The Easy Way to Compile attr Package
`cd`Your terminal should point to the directory that has the source code of the package. Then type`.\/configure`. If you're using an old version of System V with `csh`, just type`sh .\/configure`.This will take some time. Just hang tight while it checks features and prints messages.
If everything goes well, type
`make`. This compiles the package.You can run self-tests by typing
`make check`, but that’s optional!You’ll want to install it next by typing
`make install`. This will set up all programs, data files, and documentation.If you want to clean up your directory after installation, type
`make clean`. To remove all files created by configure (so you can compile for another computer), use`make distclean`.A special command called `make maintainer-clean` (mainly for developers) is also available. If you use it, be ready to get more programs so you can regenerate files that came with the distribution.
