Apple Firmware Restoration CD is here to help you out when things go a bit sideways with your Mac. Before you dive into using this software, just remember that your rights to use it are based on the software license agreement that comes along with it. When to Use the Firmware Restoration CD

This handy tool is perfect for restoring your firmware after an update goes wrong. If your Mac is acting up and in need of some TLC, you’ll need to download the software and create the CD on another Mac. Alternatively, you can always pop into an Apple Store or an authorized service provider for help.

Creating the Firmware Restoration CD

You can create this CD on either a PowerPC or Intel-based Mac, but keep in mind it only works with Intel-based Macs. Here’s a quick reminder: restoring your firmware will reset some of your computer's settings back to their defaults.

Steps to Create Your CD

1. Open up Disk Utility, which you can find in /Applications/Utilities.


2. Click on the Burn icon or choose “Burn...” from the Images menu.


3. Find where FirmwareRestorationCD.dmg is located and hit that Burn button.


4. Pop in a blank recordable CD or DVD.


5. Click Burn again to start creating your Firmware Restoration CD!

Restoring Your Firmware

Your next step is using this CD to restore your firmware back to its factory condition:

6. Make sure your machine is plugged into power.


7. Trouble starting up? Press and hold the power button until you see those LED blinks (three quick ones, followed by three slow ones, and then three quick again). Then let go of that button!


8. Sneak in the Firmware Restoration CD into the optical drive.

A few moments later (about 30-60 seconds), you'll hear a startup beep, and a progress bar should pop up under that Apple logo on a gray screen. This means your firmware is updating!

Please don’t unplug or restart during this process! If you do, you'll have to start over from step 6.

The best part? Your computer will restart automatically once everything’s done!
