AppGenome

AppGenome is a cool tool that makes it easy to access different websites without needing separate desktop apps for each one. It comes with some handy presets for social networks and news sites, but you can pretty much use it with any URL you want!

Getting Started with AppGenome

Now, I have to warn you, using the AppGenome app can be a bit tricky at first. There aren’t any separate menus for the apps. When you change something in the Setup panel, it updates right away on the current app in your status bar. So, if you're trying to open multiple websites at once, that won't really happen.

Create New Applications Easily

No worries though! You can create new applications based on your current settings. Just save them to your drive and launch them like any other app.

Save Your Settings for Later

You’ll also love that you can save changes made in the AppGenome Setup panel. The next time you open an app created by AppGenome, you'll see all your past tweaks right there!

User-Friendly Configuration Panel

The configuration panel is where the magic happens! You can name your new app and provide the source URL easily. For extra help, AppGenome has a bunch of presets sorted into categories like social networks, email, news, weather, cloud services, and more.

Desktop vs Mobile Versions

By default, AppGenome loads the desktop version of a website. But if you're feeling mobile-friendly, you can switch over to the mobile version too! Plus, there's an option to adjust popover width and choose whether or not to see navigation controls.

Status Bar Icon and Navigation Tools

The cool part? It uses the website’s favicon as its status bar icon! It also figures out window height based on your screen size and includes a contextual menu that lets you change URLs or send links directly to your clipboard or default browser.

A Few Things to Note

Even though it would be awesome if AppGenome had a real-time preview function for embedded links while testing on two Macs (running OS X 10.11 and 10.12), we couldn't get it working during our tests. You might be able to activate this feature using your mouse's middle button or trackpad.

In short, AppGenome is perfect for creating desktop clients for any URL by just providing its link! It lets you switch between desktop and mobile versions easily while offering simple navigation tools.
