Description

AMDGPU-PRO Driver

The AMDGPU-PRO Driver (formerly known as ATI Radeon Linux Display Drivers and AMD Catalyst) is a free project aimed at distributing proprietary drivers for all ATI and AMD Radeon graphics cards on Linux systems. If you've got an AMD GPU, this software is designed to help you get the most out of it!

Features of the AMDGPU-PRO Driver

This driver supports TV output on compatible AMD graphics cards. It offers various monitor setups like Laptop Mode, Clone Mode, Big Desktop, and Dual Head. In Laptop Mode, you can switch between your laptop's internal or external screen. The Clone Mode mirrors the display on both screens, so you see the same thing everywhere.

If you want to stretch your desktop across two monitors, go for Big Desktop. And with Dual Head, you can run separate instances of X on each screen. These options give users flexibility in how they want to set things up!

Compatibility and Installation

The drivers come with native graphical installers for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. They work great with major Linux operating systems like Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise, openSUSE, and Ubuntu.

Tackling Previous Issues

For years, folks using AMD GPUs faced challenges getting their graphics cards to work smoothly on Linux. While some cards performed well, many had bugs that caused problems with popular projects like the GNOME desktop environment.

Supported Graphics Cards

This driver supports nearly all desktop AMD Radeon graphics card series—like R9 290/280X/270X/260X/, R7 250/240, and HD 8000/7000/6000/5000 models! It also covers various all-in-one products like AMD Radeon HD 7600A/7450A/6600A/6350A and embedded products such as the E6760 and E6460 families.

Mobility Product Family Support

If you're using mobility GPUs from AMD, you're covered too! The driver works with the Radeon HD 8000M, 7000M, 6000M, and 5000 series. Plus, it supports X.Org versions from 7.4 onward and works well with Linux kernels from version 2.6 up to version 3.13.
