What is acer_acpi?

This project started off thanks to Mark Smith. He created it to make the wireless LAN card work on an Acer Aspire 5024 running 64-bit Linux. Before acer_acpi came along, people used a solution called acerhk made by Olaf Tauber. But there was a catch! That older method relied on BIOS calls, which just wouldn’t work with 64-bit operating systems because they couldn’t call those 32-bit routines.
