The 24-inch LED Cinema Display Firmware Update is here to help with that annoying flickering you might be seeing on your display. Just a heads up, you can only install this update if your Apple 24-inch LED Cinema Display is connected to a Thunderbolt-enabled Mac.
IMPORTANT: If you're using a Mini DisplayPort extender cable, this firmware update might not fix the flickering problem.
NOTE: Some USB and FireWire devices could mess with the installation of the firmware updates. To avoid any hiccups, it's best to disconnect any non-essential devices and just use an Apple keyboard and mouse for the update.
First things first, connect your Thunderbolt-enabled Mac to a power source. Make sure there's only one Apple 24-inch LED Cinema Display connected to your Mac and close out all applications before you start.
You’ll also need to keep the USB cable connecting your Mac to the display plugged in throughout the entire process.
To kick things off, double-click on the "24-inch LED Cinema Display Firmware Update" to mount that disk image. A window will pop up; if it says "No device was detected," it means this update isn't meant for your display, so go ahead and quit that app.
If everything looks good, click on that Update button! You'll need to enter your admin password when prompted—just click OK after that.
You can keep an eye on how things are going through the status bar in the Firmware Update window. Once it's done, you'll see a message confirming success—"This device is up to date." Go ahead and click OK then quit out of that firmware update application.
The last step? Unplug the display power cord for about 15 seconds, then plug it back in again to finish everything up!
Please remember: Don't interrupt this process! The USB cable must stay connected while updating. Some features of your display won't work until everything is complete.
If you find that your screen stays blank for over 30 seconds, unplugging and replugging that power cord should do the trick. And if by chance something goes wrong during updating? No worries—just quit out of everything, unplug for those 15 seconds again, then give it another shot!
