What is Zeitgeist FOR LINUX?

Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist is a cool command-line tool that helps keep track of what you do on your GNU/Linux system. It's built using Vala and is pretty much the go-to option for logging activities on Ubuntu Linux.

What Does Zeitgeist Do?

This handy software logs all sorts of desktop events, like the files you open, websites you visit, and even chat conversations. The best part? It makes all this info available for other apps to use!

Tagging and Bookmarking Features

Zeitgeist isn't just about logging; it also lets you tag items! You can do this manually or let the data provider handle it automatically. Plus, it supports bookmarking items to make finding things easier later on. It's great for spotting patterns in how you use things based on similarity and frequency.

Installing Zeitgeist Made Easy

If you're wondering how to get started with Zeitgeist, don't worry—it's not too tricky! While it's mainly distributed as a source archive, Ubuntu users can usually find it in their main software repositories if it's not already installed.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

First, download the source archive to a spot like your Home directory. After that, unpack it with an archive manager utility. Next, open up a terminal emulator and navigate to where you unpacked those files (like using cd /home/softpedia/zeitgeist-0.9.14).

Then run ./configure && make to set everything up and compile the program. Finally, use sudo make install to install it system-wide so everyone on your computer can access it!

A Peek Inside Zeitgeist

If we take a closer look at Zeitgeist, we see that it's written entirely in Vala. We've tested it out successfully on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of GNU/Linux.
