Description

Whenever you have a large number of images to sift through, whether downloaded or imported from your camera, there are usually a lot of duds that will need to be deleted, and classic image viewers or Finder aren’t very good at this.

YouplaBoum! is an efficient open-source app created for this exact scenario. It lets you cycle through all your photos, selecting specific ones as you go, and then remove or keep all the images you’ve selected.

As soon as you launch the app, you’ll need to select the folder you want to process, where your images are saved. They are then loaded in a classic image viewer interface, with a photo filmstrip at the bottom.

Navigation is done via the arrow keys, and you select photos by pressing the space bar. You’ll see checkmarks in the filmstrip, and the number of selected images is displayed right above it.

To help you identify the right files, some basic image information is displayed at the top: the filename, format, resolution and file size. Additional metadata can be toggled in the main window from the app menu or via a hotkey. You can also open images in an external editor or show them in Finder.

After making your way through all your photos, you can process the selected ones, which means either deleting them or keeping them and removing all the other ones. You’ll find them in the trash bin if you change your mind later.

While this is a very basic app, it’s perfect for this specific use case. Keyboard selection and navigation speeds things up, and it’s very responsive thanks to its limited feature set and the fact that it's coded in Swift.
