Easy to Use but Takes Time

Now, while XY Family Tree is pretty user-friendly, it might take a bit of time to get used to because the interface can feel a bit crowded. Everything is packed into one window, which includes sections for siblings, spouses, children, and other relatives. Plus, there are buttons for adding new family members right there!

Building Your Family Tree

To create your family tree, you'll need to enter details about each person manually. But don’t worry! XY Family Tree can also import data from Gedcom files. You start with the focus person’s name and their birth or death dates and then add info about parents, spouses (you can have as many as you like), kids, and even friends or associates.

Store Notes and Links

This app allows you to store personal notes for each person too! You can link to important websites or files of any kind. And guess what? You can even see locations on Google Maps right in the main window!

Create Lists of Ancestors

Generating a list of ancestors is super easy; it shows data about parents and grandparents in a clear tree view. Alternatively, if you want to see how everyone is related—like your aunts, uncles, or cousins—you can check out the kinship sketch feature.

Exporting Your Work

You can easily export your genealogical work as a Gedcom file or publish it as an HTML file to embed on your website. Pretty neat for sharing with family!
