Description

XSane is an open source and freely distributed graphical application implemented in GTK+ and designed from the offset to act as a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for the SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) image scanning command-line program.

The XSane software can do anything SANE does, but via a user-friendly interface that allows you to acquire images from scanners. Besides scanners, the software supports many other devices, such as video recorders and web cameras.

Its GUI (Graphical User Interface) is quite similar with the one of the GIMP software, as it is split into multiple dialogs. The main window can be easily recognized because it includes menus that allow you to access its internal options, as well as to control which dialogs are visible.

Among the available dialogs, we can mention a viewer, where you can see the scanned image, a histogram viewer, so you can view if the image was captured correctly, as well as to enhance it, or a dialog with options for the scanner device.

It lets users scan files, create a fax, create a photocopy, as well as to create and send an email with an attachment obtained from the scanner. A plugin for the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Software) application is also included, so you can easily edit acquired images.

XSane is one of the applications that can be found installed by default on some popular Linux distributions. However, it can also be found in the official software repositories of numerous other Linux kernel-based operating systems. The software can run on computers supporting either of the 32 or 64-bit instruction set architectures.
