Window Cleaner is a software utility made to find and remove unnecessary or junk files from your hard drive, in order to free up space, make room for new data, and ultimately improve your computer's performance. Although it may sound complicated to work with, it contains intuitive options for all user levels, even beginners.

Although it doesn't have particularly appealing graphical elements, its interface is user-friendly, making it possible to quickly figure out its options.

All cleaning options are categorized in standard groups. These include the history of recent documents, Windows Search and Run, temporary files directory, scandisk temporary items, Recycle Bin contents, Internet Explorer (such as history, cache, address bar, cookies, forms and passwords), as well as zero-byte files which clutter the disk although they weigh nothing.

Custom objects can be added to the cleaning task by indicating directories whose entire containing files you want to delete. Unfortunately, Window Cleaner doesn't support advanced file filters in this case, such as including or excluding items by size or content type.

The scanning and cleaning operation is automatically performed, so you're not given the chance to examine results and optionally exclude any items from the removal procedure, namely files you want to keep. Statistics can be examined in separate log files, which can be launched without leaving the program's interface.

The tool can be instructed to autorun at every Windows startup until told otherwise. You can clear the log file anytime, as well as enable confirmations before the cleaning operation.

It worked well in our tests, without triggering the OS to hang, crash or prompt error messages. Search and clean jobs were carried out fast, while CPU and RAM consumption remained minimal. However, Window Cleaner hasn't been updated for a long time, and there are many similar tools out there offering the same features for free.
