WiFiPerf is a super handy application for macOS that lets you test how well your wired or wireless network is performing. It's pretty straightforward to use, making it perfect for everyone!

Test Your Network Performance Easily

If you’re into testing network performance, here’s something cool: WiFiPerf is also available on iOS! So, if you have an iPad or iPhone, you can run the app there too. This means you can check out how your devices are doing when connected to OS X.

Getting Started with WiFiPerf

To kick things off, you'll need to install WiFiPerf on at least two devices that are hooked up to the same network. You’ll decide which one will be the server and which one will act as the client.

The default server address is set to localhost. Just a heads up: if you don’t tweak this setting before running tests, the results won’t show accurate network activity.

Running Tests Like a Pro

On the Mac you want to use as your server, head over to the WiFiPerf Server panel and hit that “Run Server” button. At this point, grab the IP address and port number and enter them into the Client window of your second device or iOS gadget.

In the Client tab, you can customize several options like test duration, stats interval, transfer direction, test type (UDP or TCP), diagram size, send bandwidth size, graph max speed—lots of cool stuff! Then just press “Run Test.” You can even turn on voice alerts so the app reads out results for you!

Your Results at a Glance

After running tests with WiFiPerf, you'll see all your test results displayed nicely. You’ll get graphs for each entry along with a table showing details like interval time, transfer speed, bandwidth info (SSID & BSSID), RSSI values, noise levels, TX rate—basically everything you'd want to know!

Plus, right above your results area is where you'll find details about what settings were used for each test.
