About the Sightings Network

The B.C. Cetacean Sightings Network, in collaboration with the Vancouver Aquarium and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, is a research and conservation program that relies on reports from thousands of observers to better understand the distribution of cetaceans and sea turtles in B.C. waters.

Conservation Efforts

With 12 species at risk, cetaceans and sea turtles in British Columbia face various threats from human activities. The data collected through the WhaleReport app is used in research projects to protect these species and their habitats.
