Webmailer is a handy tool for Mac OS X users, even if its name doesn’t win any creativity awards! This preference pane helps you tackle the annoying issue of opening mailto links. With it, you can set up your system to open any URL or run a shell script, using parameters straight from those mailto links.
What’s cool about Webmailer? It comes pre-loaded with links for popular webmail sites like Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, and Hotmail. Plus, it supports various webmail programs like SquirrelMail and Roundcube. But don't worry if your favorite isn’t listed; you can easily add your own setup!
Webmailer has two versions available: one for Mac OS X v10.3 (Panther) and another for v10.4 (Tiger). The Tiger version is especially nice since it lets you pick your default email handler—whether that's Webmailer or another program of your choice.
The Panther version does miss out on this feature, though. But don’t fret too much! Webmailer is designed as a Universal Binary, which means it works great on both PowerPC and Intel systems.
If you ever want to use a different configuration instead of the default one, just hold down the shift key when opening that mailto link. It’s super simple!
If Webmailer doesn't show up in your application list, no big deal! You can try downloading and running the Mail Handler Fix. It should help get everything working smoothly.
