What is VTD?

VTD

VTD is a cool app that helps you see the differences between up to four trees. It highlights the branches, or splits, that aren't shared among those trees. This is super handy for anyone working with tree data!

Three Ways to Use VTD

You can use VTD in three different ways:

  • Command Line Output: You can run it right from the command line! Just type java -jar vtd.jar tree1 tree2 > out.xml. This will create a phyloxml file that works with any compatible tree viewer.

  • View Differences: If you want to check out the differences between two trees, run it like this: java -jar vtd.jar tree1 tree2 -v. This will open up the Archeopteryx tree viewer.

  • GUI Mode: Prefer a graphical interface? No problem! Just type java -jar vtd.jar, and a file dialog will pop up for you to select your input tree files.
