Most default Windows functions can be triggered, or activated through hotkeys, but not all of them. Time is easily wasted through additional steps to a simple operation, such as changing the volume all the way from the tray icon. For a faster approach, Volume Controler shows up on the desktop to provide the required means to increase, decrease, or mute sound.
Note that this is not a stand-alone product, and unless it’s installed inside Yahoo! Widget Engine, it can’t be used, since it is specifically designed to run on Yahoo!’s particular engine. However, it can still be stored along with an entire collection of gadgets on a thumb drive to use on other computers, or install later on again.
Just like any other gadget, it too benefits from the default set of options to work on aesthetics, and basic behavior. As such, it can be set to ignore mouse interaction, fixed into position in order to prevent being dragged by mistake across the desktop, window priority level to one of three states, and opacity.
The gadget itself is already transparent, even without handling the opacity slider. Adjusting volume is done through corresponding buttons to increase, or decrease, with noticeable visual, and audio feedback. All sound is completely cut off, or enabled again at the press of a button.
