What is VisTrails FOR LINUX?

VisTrails is an open source, free and multiplatform graphical software written in the Python programming language around the Qt toolkit, and designed to act as a scientific workflow management system.

Developed at the University of Utah, the software has been engineered in such a way that is can address the needs of exploratory scientific apps. It is very extendable through plugins.

Key features include support for data visualization and exploration, a visual programming interface for several libraries, including VTK (The Visualization Toolkit), the ability to generate mashups, a provenance viewer, as well as support for global variables, a very useful function for Constant derived modules, which can be used to create shared variables.

The application comes with support for the creating reproducible papers, a Control Flow Assistant function that simplifies workflow creations using conditional constructs and loops, support for queries over workflows in contrasting vistrails, and support for visual diffs.

The application’s graphical user interface is modern and feature rich, comprised of multiple view areas that can be arrange in any way you like. Almost all of its components can be added into the main window, which means that you will have instant access to variable, visualization properties, calculator, plots and analyses, templates, VCS (Version Control System), ParaView or PVClimate.

The Projects module is the first and most used element of the application, allowing the user to easily and quickly create a new project, load an existing project, as well as to save the current project.

The software is written entirely in the Python programming language and uses the cross-platform Qt GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface. The application works well with GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures.
