Description
UUDeview
UUDeview is a handy application that makes it super easy to send and receive binary files over the Internet. Whether you're using email or newsgroups, this tool has got your back!
Easy Encoding and Decoding
The UUDeview package comes with both an encoder and a decoder. The best part? The decoder can automatically figure out what type of encoding is used! It supports MIME's Base64 and BinHex, along with the popular uuencoding and even the less common xxencoding methods. Recently, they added support for yEnc encoding, which is pretty popular these days.
A Smart Multi-part Decoder
What really sets UUDeview apart is its powerful decoding capability. It’s designed to meet the needs of news readers. If you save a bunch of articles from your email or newsreader into one or multiple files, just open up UUDeview! It can easily decode all those files from your messages or articles without any fuss.
Powerful Encoding Tool Included
The package also includes another tool called UUEnview, which is great for encoding too! Both tools are built on top of the UUDeview library, making them perfect for anyone developing mail or news software. You can easily integrate them into your own projects to add encoding and decoding features.
Key Features You Should Know
- yEnc Support: Many users asked for this feature! Just keep in mind that yEnc isn't compatible with MIME, so I suggest sticking to Base64/MIME instead.
- File Deletion Option: Be careful with the '-c' option on UUDeview; it deletes all files if anything was decoded from them!
- Auto-Rename Feature: Turn on autorename (-a) so that if a file name already exists (like foo.gif), it will rename it to foo.gif.1 instead.
- MIME Handling: The "more mime" option (-z) helps reduce false readings when looking for encoded data in MIME messages.
