Description

URandR

URandR is a super handy GUI (graphical user interface) designed for RandR 1.2, and it’s built with PyGTK. It covers the basic features of RandR 1.2 and aims to make setting up multiple screens a breeze, especially for those who might not be tech-savvy.

Easy Multihead Configuration

Have you ever wanted to connect your laptop to a projector without having to fiddle with all those confusing settings in your xorg.conf? Or maybe you're like Jane, who has two displays and wants them to act like one big screen? That’s where URandR comes in!

Limitations

Right now, URandR can only set up two screens at once (like two DVI monitors). But don’t worry! This is something they're working on improving soon.

Setting Up Virtual Resolutions

If you want to use a virtual resolution, just check the box to enable your external monitor and hit the Apply button. After that, you can arrange your external monitor either on the left or right of your main screen. Just keep in mind that sometimes enabling this virtual resolution might disable direct rendering. If that happens, you can easily fix it by either removing the virtual resolution from your xorg.conf file or using URandR's Clear button. Oh, and remember to turn off Compiz before trying any method other than Clone mode!

Requirements for URandR

If you're thinking about giving URandR a shot, here are what you'll need:

  • Python

  • PyGTK

  • An Intel graphics card with Intel's modesetting driver or an ATI card using the open source driver (version 6.7.191 or higher)

  • xorg-server version 1.3 or higher (works on any GNU/Linux distribution)
