Description

UPower

UPower is a totally free and open-source command-line tool written in C. It's super handy for checking out power devices, looking up stats and history, and even keeping an eye on device events. If you’re working with Linux, UPower can really help you manage your power settings.

How UPower Works

Once you install UPower, it sets up a service called org.freedesktop.UPower. This service can be accessed by any other app or service running on your system through the system message bus. It’s a pretty cool feature that makes it easy to pull info from different sources.

Permissions and Restrictions

But hold on! Some actions like putting your system to sleep are limited due to PolicyKit restrictions. Just so you know, UPower used to be known as DeviceKit-power, and it's already pre-installed on popular Linux operating systems like Arch Linux, Ubuntu, Fedora, and openSUSE.

Command-Line Options

This software comes packed with various command-line options. For example, you can list object paths for devices or dump all the parameters for each object. You can also get wakeup data, monitor activity from the power daemon in detail, and display detailed information about specific object paths.

Installing UPower

If you can't find UPower on your GNU/Linux OS, don’t worry! You can easily install it using the source package available on Softpas, which is one of the biggest software directories around!

Your Installation Steps

To get started with installation: download the package by clicking the download button above. Save it to your computer and then extract its contents using an archive manager. Open a terminal emulator next. Use the ‘cd’ command to navigate to where you've extracted those files (for example: cd /home/softpedia/upower-0.99.2). Then run ‘./configure && make’ to set everything up followed by ‘sudo make install’ for a system-wide installation.
