What is Unicode Viewer?

Unicode Viewer is a handy little Java applet that helps you check if your system supports full Unicode. It's open-source, so if you're curious about how it works or want to tweak it yourself, the code is right there in the downloaded package!

Easy to Use

You don’t even need to install it! Just make sure you have the Java Runtime Environment set up. Then, all you have to do is double-click the .jar file, and boom—you’re in the main app window.

Selecting Character Sets

You can pick your preferred character set from a dropdown menu at the top right of the window. Need help with viewing hex codes for characters? No problem! The app shows instructions at the bottom of the screen.

Viewing Hex Codes

To see hex codes, select the first digit using its white square on the bottom and match it with a second digit on the right. After that, you can find digits three and four using their corresponding black squares. It’s pretty straightforward once you get used to it!

Font Variations

You can also switch through different fonts to see how glyphs change. However, there's a downside: you can't copy characters or save them as images, which might be a letdown for some users.

Smooth Performance

The tool worked smoothly during our test on Windows 10. Even though Unicode Viewer hasn’t had an update in a while, it didn’t slow down our computer or cause any errors.

A Little Confusing?

Some users might find the instructions for viewing hex codes a bit tricky at first. But overall, Unicode Viewer is super handy for checking if your operating system supports Unicode.
