What is TxtAn?

This program is open-source and totally free! It's written in Pascal, which means you won't have to pay a dime. Plus, it works with older versions of Windows too. You'll download it as a zip file that includes two executables for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

How to Use TxtAn

Using this application is pretty straightforward. First, you unzip the package you downloaded. Next, open your command line interface (CLI) with admin rights. Navigate to where you unzipped TxtAn (like C:\\Users\\My_User\\Desktop\\TxtAn). Then, you just run the executable that matches your system type and point it at the text file you want to analyze. If your file's in another spot, just use its path, like this: C:\\Users\\My_User\\Downloads\\my_file.txt.

Making Your Call

Your regular command should look something like this: .\\TxtAn64.exe C:\\Users\\APL\\Desktop\\my_file.txt.

What Info Can You Get?

If everything runs smoothly, this neat little tool gives you some useful info! You'll see how many files were processed in one go, the total size of what was analyzed, and details about text lines—like how many were blank or had actual content.

Need Help?

If you ever get stuck using TxtAn, don't worry! Just go back to where you saved the program and type .\\TxtAn64.exe -h or --help. This will show you all the commands available.

Add Some Extra Options

You can also use extra input arguments like -r, which lets you set how deep you'd like to recurse through subdirectories. There's also -s, which gives just a summary without extra details; -isfl, for ignoring symbolic links to target files; and -idsl, for skipping symbolic links to directories.
