TurboZIP is a handy tool that lets you open popular archive files like ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, and even some lesser-known formats like UU, UUE, MME, CAB, HQX, BHX, and more. It's pretty cool for anyone who deals with compressed files regularly!
After you install TurboZIP, a file association panel pops up. This is where you choose which file types you want to link to the app. Once that's done, another panel asks if you want to scan your folders for any archives. It might make more sense to have that option on the toolbar or tucked away in one of the menus.
If you're like me and love quick access to things, you'll appreciate that TurboZIP adds itself to your right-click context menu. So every time you right-click on a file, you'll see TurboZIP there as an option.
One of the standout features of TurboZIP is how it displays the contents of an archive. When you open an archive file, the interface splits into three sections: one shows the list of archives, another shows what's inside them, and the last gives you a preview of a selected file's content. This feature works for different types of files too!
But keep in mind that images or other non-text files might show up as weird symbols or gibberish instead of clear content.
TurboZIP has been around since 1997! However, it comes with a price tag while there are many free alternatives out there that do similar things.
