Trimble Data Transfer is a handy app for anyone who needs to move data from different devices to their computer. We’re talking about devices like the Trimble Series 4000 and R/5000 receivers, DiNi Digital Level, and the Trimble Survey Controller, just to name a few.
Once the necessary data is recognized, you can easily import it into programs like Trimble Geomatics Office, Trimble Total Control, or Terramodel. This makes life easier for civil engineers and surveyors as they can work with terrain models and alignment designs without any hassle.
The software uses something called a device definition to gather info about each piece of equipment. There’s a simple wizard that walks you through adding a new device. Once you have that set up for your gadget, every time you connect it to your PC, Trimble Data Transfer lets you transfer data back and forth.
The wizard guides you step-by-step in adding and setting up your new device definition for data transfer. You just hit the ‘Device’ button, click ‘New’, pick what type of device you want to create, set its port number (which depends on the model), and give it a name. Watch as the list updates with your new device definition!
An important feature is that this app supports various dialogs to help manage and organize your files however you want. These dialogs let you change output file formats, choose coordinate systems or zones for transferring to GID dataloggers, select background files for transfer, and pick which waypoints matter most to you.
For example, when using the ‘Devices dialog,’ you can see all the devices you've set up so far in the app. You can add more devices, delete them if needed, rename them, or even check out their properties!
The ‘Receiving dialog’ pops up whenever you start transferring files. It shows how far along the process is going. Once everything is transferred over successfully, you'll see the ‘Converting dialog’ where you can choose your output format.
If you're a civil engineer or just someone who needs to quickly track waypoints and move information from various Trimble devices to your computer smoothly, Trimble Data Transfer is definitely worth checking out!
